ROTARY CLUB OF ADELAIDE EAST
STRATEGIC PLAN FOR 2010 – 2011
AND
OUTLINE OF OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
1. Where are we now?
(By reference to 2090 – 2010 Objectives promulgated in May 2009)
· we have grown in the last year by 10 new members thanks to members referrals, Rick Harcourt as membership officer and Janine Kitson as President (2)
· have a vibrant and strong club fellowship re-established
· various social events have commented the links between members
· our fund raising has increased significantly over the past year.
· we have increased our financial basis over the past several years to a point where we can and have donated monies to worthy causes in the last year
· we have modified our meeting procedures in line with a more modern approach (15)
· we have established a photo album which contains a record of our achievements and fun times for members to be reminded of these & commenced a library for the club (12)
· we have reviewed the times of Board meetings to enable more board members to attend and have also added a meal at the end to encourage fellowship and sharing of ideas (17)
· we have instituted a birthday biscuit ritual to recognize individual members’ special days (16)
· we have acquired a projector for the club which assists in our guest speaker arrangements (7)
· we have explored some different fund raising and profile raising options during this past year
· a number of members have visited other clubs for meetings and this has resulted in closed connections with and cooperation with several other clubs
· sent a strong contingent from our club to the District Conference in Wallaroo
· we have presented a Community Service Award to a worthy recipient along with a cheque for $5,000 (1,(a) )
· we have increased the transmission of information via our updated newsletter (8)
· very little contributions to the Foundation have been made over the pasts few years
· we have some attrition of members, some of which could not be avoided, but some of which we are unsure of the reasons for this
·
Where do we want to be? What are our goals for this coming year?
· we want to grow our club by another 10 members over the next year to reach our goal of 60
· we want to develop community service opportunities for our members to fulfill their expectations of our club and live up to the Rotary objectives
· attract 50% of the new members under the age of 50 years to redress the demographics of our aging membership, thereby ensuring we can be sustainable as a club
· try to broaden the ethnic mix of our club to maximize a cross cultural experience and include different ideas into our fund raising and community service projects
· retain all current members by providing a range of projects and tasks for members
· increase our contribution to the Foundation
· having our new members inducted into the intricacies of Rotary via educational input from experienced Rotarians
· reinstitute a structure, by establishing a team to focus members’ efforts on the Rotary categories of service and provide defined opportunities to serve
· honour our longstanding members in some way to show our appreciation for their years of loyal service to Rotary
· ensure that all members have a range of opportunities on offer to enable them to fulfill their wishes to serve the community.
· focus on the broad aims of District 9500 in the activities we become involved with to ensure we are doing our part in achieving the District’s aims.
· Publicise the good works of Rotary, e.g. Polio eradication, to familiarize the community with our success and enhance our chances of their support in the future.
PROPOSED PROGRAMME OF ACITIVITIES FOR THE CLUB
1 COMMUNITY SERVICE
· Present a community service award
· Offer assistance to Gilles Street Primary School in some tangible way
· Continue to provide a one day a week service to the Meals on Wheels
· Visit the Magdalene Centre
· Visit our related club in Roxby Downs during the first half of the next financial year
· Finalize the Flinders Lodge restoration of a room for cancer patients and their families
2 INTERNATIONAL SERVICE
· Donate to the Foundation , via Paul Harris Fellowship recipient, and aiming for 30% of our members being Centurions by the end of the year
· Participate in a overseas hands on community project by members in a different country during this year
· Board to choose 2 out of the 14 Rotary Foundation “Doing Good in the World” projects to commit time and energy in pursuing
3 YOUTH
· Participates in the National Science Youth Forum by providing a delegate and sponsoring a student
· Conduct a seminar for students on the “morality behind the law” to encourage good citizenship and debate
· Participate in the RYDER program with Charles Campbell Secondary School and apply for a District Grant for this purpose
4 VOCATIONAL SERVICE
· Participate in 1 vocation based activity to recognize and promote the value of all useful occupations
· Sponsor a career day for Rotarians to bring young people to heir places of business to educates them about career opportunities.
· Hold an informal professional network event where members can meet other local professionals and introduce them to members
· Start up a Mentoring program using Rotarians to volunteer in helping young people using Rotary Project Link.
5 FELLOWSHIP
· Organize a presence at the District Conference in October
· Arrange for a club visit to Roxby Downs in the first half of this financial year
· Organize a range of events to allow new members to socialize with experienced Rotarians, at minimum cost and utilize members’ houses to do this
6 FUNDRAISING
· Ensure that fundraising efforts include a large proportion of outside participants to avoid excessive financial drain on Adelaide East Rotarians
· Continue the sale of Oil, Entertainment books
· Hold a Melbourne cup lunch at a private house to maximize fund raising
· Think “outside the square” to raise money and secure a regular stream of income for the club
· Ensure that our activities are well published to increase the community awareness of Rotary and the good causes we support
